THE achievements of the Drogheda Wolves underage teams over the weekend helped dull some of the pain felt by the senior men following their play-off defeat at the hands of Limerick Celtics.

Leading the way were the U16 Arctic Boys team who completed the NEBB League and Cup double after emerging victorious in the Top-4s.

No team has got closer this season than 13 points to these all-conquering boys, which is a credit to their hard work and passion for the game.

The Top-4s was no different as Wolves overcame Dunshaughlin Rockets 53-27 in the semis before defeating brave Cavan Lakers 78-31 in a one-sided decider, with Shane Kelly awarded MVP.

This squad, coached by Conor, Feargal and Jim, now looks forward to the AICC competition at the end of April.

Meanwhile, the U16 Black team finished third in the B League and then lost in the Plate semi-finals to the eventual champions Blackwater Steelers by 11 points.

Wolves’ U16 Grey team lost their first league match of the season but won all the remaining 11 games to top the B2 table.

They hoped to add the Shield to their league title and won through to the decider with victory over Cavan Lakers.

Dromiskin had home advantage in the final, but the teams were level at half-time and just one basket separated them with 32 seconds remaining. However, Dromiskin Dynamites finished stronger to come out on top 55-51.

Also battling for the Shield was the U16 Red team who finished third in their league, but having led their semi-final by seven points at half-time they played second fiddle to the eventual winners Dromiskin Dynamites who outscored them 45-17 in the second half to advance to the final.

Elsewhere, the Drogheda Wolves U14 girls took down North Star Warriors in Belfast over the weekend to complete the BNI League and Cup double and ensure an undefeated season, with Leire collecting the MVP award for the final with 13 points.

It took double overtime to separate Drogheda Wolves and Queens in the U12 BNI Division 1 decider, but eventually the Boynesiders prevailed and like the U14 girls they too completed the BNI League and Cup trophies this season, with Oscar picking up the MVP award in the final.
