IT proved to be a great weekend for the boys and girls Drogheda Wolves U12 Arctic teams as they both came out on top against their Dunshauglin Rockets counterparts.

The boys were convincing 38-20 winners against the Meath outfit in an exciting game that showcased resilience, teamwork and determination.

Wolves started slowly, struggling to match the physicality and size of the Rockets under the boards and trailing 10-7 after one quarter. However, they regrouped and came back out with renewed energy and a strong defensive effort turned the tide as they shut down the Rockets’ offense and stormed into a 20-10 lead.

After half-time Wolves continued to push forward, with Ciaran Teeling taking control from the point guard position. His leadership and playmaking were instrumental in keeping the Wolves’ offense flowing, while Alfie Googin stood out with a strong defensive performance and Antoni Korczynski came up with some timely baskets.

In the final quarter Oscar Chimel and Will Hallinan proved effective and their chemistry on the break led to several easy baskets for the likes of Sonny Angeloni Forrest.

The Drogheda Wolves girls finished 34-26 winners in their match at home to Dunshaughlin at Ballymakenny College in what proved to be a game full of emotions, dramatic twists and loud cheering!

Wolves did lose the battle on the boards in terms of rebounds, but their determination, great defensive play and efficiency on offense got them over the line.

Alice Paterson (11 points) and Charlotte Kotongole (8) stood out in particular, but only after a fast start by Dunshaughlin who used their physical advantage to lead 14-8 after quarter one. The second quarter belonged to Wolves as they effectively blocked their opponents’ attacks and started to find better solutions in attack, closing to within one point at 20-19.

In the third quarter Wolves went with an aggressive and organised defense that completely surprised Dunshaughlin and going into the final period the home side led for the first time at 28-24. Drogheda were not about to give up the lead and they duly won the last quarter 6-2 to clinch the victory.

The fans who filled the hall witnessed a great example of the importance of believing in oneself and fighting to the end.
